Did You Know?

The blue poison dart frog is tiny but toxic.

While most amphibians have at least a trace of poison in their skins, the tiny poison dart frogs of Central and South America are so toxic that their skin secretions are used by native Indians as poison on the tips of darts. A monkey or bird shot with such a dart is paralyzed almost instantly.

In addition to frightening off predators, the toxins help prevent fungi and bacteria from forming on the frog's permanently moist skin.
