These blue-grey cranes live in large flocks on the African grasslands. They eat a wide variety of foods, including plants, fish, small reptiles, and insects. Their favorite foods are grasshoppers and locusts.

Stanley cranes don't build elaborate nests for their young. A female lays two eggs in a grassy depression. She and her mate cooperate in sitting on the eggs and raising the chicks.
