Range: Sub-Saharan Africa
Habitat: Tall grass in moist areas
Conservation Status: Not Listed by IUCN
Scientific Name: Euplectus orix orix

These handsome birds are native to sub-Saharan Africa, where they are well known for their striking orange and black plumage. In fact, one of their nicknames is the bishop finch, probably because of the resemblance of their head to a bishop’s hat. Despite their small size, orange weaver finches can be quite aggressive and will fiercely defend their territory against other birds.
