Pteroglossus viridis |
These very active birds spend most of their lives in the highest trees of the forest. They seldom come to the forest floor even to drink, preferring to drink and bathe in the rain water that collects in tree forks or leaves. Noisy and restless, aracaris can be seen in groups of 12 or more straggling almost single file through the trees, staying mostly up in the highest trees. They tend to perch out in the open in early morning, roosting in hollow trees at night. Did You Know? Although heavy and clumsy in appearance, the beak of the aracari is a very lightweight bony tissue.
