Raja

Date of birth: December 27, 1992 (born to Pearl at Saint Louis Zoo)
Distinguishing characteristics:

• only male elephant at our zoo
• biggest of our elephants: tall and leggy
• two tusks
• Father to daughters, Maliha and the newest member of the herd
• large “finger” at end of trunk (like his mother, Pearl)

Sri (pronounced see)

Date of birth: July 1980
Came to Saint Louis Zoo: 2002 (from Woodland Park Zoo)
Distinguishing characteristics:

• very hairy
• stubby rear legs
• wrinkles form “circles” around her eyes

Ellie

Date of birth: 1971
Came to Saint Louis Zoo: 2001 (from Jacksonville Zoo)
Distinguishing characteristics:

• tallest of our female elephants
• lots of pink on trunk
• mild temperament
• Maliha and Rani’s mother

Maliha

Date of birth: August 2, 2006 (born to Ellie at the Saint Louis Zoo)
Distinguishing characteristics:

• was 341 pounds at birth
• Ellie's second daughter
• Raja's first daughter

Rani

Date of birth: July 5, 1996 (born to Ellie at Jacksonville Zoo )
Came to Saint Louis Zoo: 2001
Distinguishing characteristics:

• smallest of our adult elephants
• extremely active and playful
• usually found with Ellie, her mother

Jade

Date of birth: February 25, 2007 (born to Rani at the Saint Louis Zoo)
Distinguishing characteristics:

• was 236 pounds at birth
• Rani's first daughter and Raja's second
• Maliha's half-sister 

Pearl

Date of birth: 1971
Came to Saint Louis Zoo: 1973
Distinguishing characteristics:

• large “finger” at end of trunk
• Raja’s mother

• our most vocal elephant
