Muntjacs are a group of small, primitive Asian deer. This particular species is at home in the dense forest undergrowth of southeastern China. Reeves' muntjacs are solitary, territorial animals. They tolerate the company of other muntjacs only when breeding. Even the young must leave the mother's territory by the age of six months. In addition to browsing on plant matter, muntjacs often catch and eat small birds and mammals.

Did You Know?

Muntjacs are also called barking deer because of their loud, dog-like alarm calls.
