Baboons eat grass seeds, tubers and small animals in the dry areas where they live. Males are twice the size of females and have long grey shoulder hair. Both sexes have pink "sitting pads" (thick skin called ischial collosities) that make it more comfortable to sit while sleeping.

An adult female has loose skin on her rump which swells during heat (estrus) and signals the male that she is ready to mate.
