Range: Southwestern Russia to northeastern Turkey
Habitat: Forests
Conservation Status: Endangered
Scientific Name: Vipera kaznakovi

This small viper lives in the Caucasus Mountain region of Russia and Turkey. Because of its remote and often harsh habitat, little is known about its habits in the wild. The snake's numbers have plunged in recent years as a result of habitat destruction and over-collecting. In addition, research and conservation programs are hard to carry out because of political unrest in large parts of the region
