Range: Burma (in southeastern Asia)
Habitat: Small bodies of water in tropical mountain forests or lowland rain forests
Conservation Status: Critically endangered
Scientific Name: Heosemys depressa

Little is known about this rare turtle, which only occurs in the hills of Arakan, Burma. Unfortunately, we may never have the opportunity to study it in the wild. Throughout Asia, millions of turtles are being collected yearly for use as food or "medicinal cures". All species of Asian turtles face an uncertain future. Unless we take action now, this turtle and many other species will literally be eaten out of existence. For some, it may already be too late.
