Zoo Careers

Do you want to work at the Zoo? Come and meet some of the people who keep the Zoo running. Through discussion and activities, you will find out what their jobs are REALLY like.

Animal Care And Nutrition
Zookeepers are responsible for the daily care of the animal collection. Nutritionists are the diet experts. We will visit the new Orthwein Animal Nutrition Center and learn how diets are prepared for the animals in our collection.

Zoo Veterinarian
Go inside the Endangered Species Research Center and Veterinary Hospital for a look at some of the equipment used by our veterinary staff. Meet one of our vets and hear about the challenges and rewards of a veterinary career.

Animal Trainer
Learn about the “positive reinforcement” method of training animals. Parrots, sea lions, chickens and even humans can be trained this way. Visit the Sea Lion Show and receive a training book.

Zoo Conservation Curator
As a curator, you are responsible for many animals at the Zoo and for the people who take care of them! Get a taste of what the job requires through activities and experiences that parallel the real thing. Become familiar with tools and protocols curators use in their work.
