Zoo Careers
Do you want to work at the Zoo? Come and meet some of the people who keep the Zoo running. Through discussion and activities, you will find out what their jobs are REALLY like. Sign up for one title or all five!
Animal Nutrition
Zookeepers are responsible for the daily care of the animal collection. Nutritionists are the diet experts. We will visit the Orthwein Animal Nutrition Center and learn how diets are prepared for the animals in our collection.

What happens when a hyena has a toothache, or when a sea lion has an injured flipper? In this class, we will hear about the challenges of being a veterinarian, look at some of the equipment used, and get an insight view on how working as a Zoo vet can be a rewarding career. Come prepared with questions.

Come and find out how Zoo staff and volunteers use enrichment to enhance the animals' enclosures, while providing exciting observational experiences for the visitors. We will learn the importance of enrichment, and make items for select Zoo animals. We will visit the animals and watch them receive the enrichment items we made.

Learn about the “positive reinforcement” method of training animals. Parrots, sea lions, chickens and even humans can be trained this way. Participants will learn about clicker training and visit the Sea Lion Show.

The daily care of animals includes more than just cleaning and feeding. Come learn about the responsibilities and educational requirements of Zookeepers and their role in caring for so many dynamic animals. This class will culminate with an exciting keeper experience.
