Generous Gift Establishes George Vierheller Endowed Fund for Zoological Medicine
In June 2006, Lana Mueller Jordan and her family announced their commitment of a $500,000 gift through the LMJ Foundation. In honor of her grandfather's dedication to the care of animals, this endowed gift was named the George Vierheller Endowed Fund for Zoological Medicine. Mr. Vierheller was the Saint Louis Zoo's first Director and served in that position for over 40 years.
Ms. Jordan and her family made this gift to the Zoo in the form of a challenge grant that required it to be matched in three years. The family's generosity encouraged Zoo staff to educate others about the endowment trust and inspired donors to support the Saint Louis Zoo in its quest to remain a world leader in veterinary care.
We are proud to announce that the $500,000 challenge was met earlier this year with a gift from the Estate of Betty Meisenbach York. To date, the George Vierheller Endowed Fund for Zoological Medicine stands at $1,002,050.
With two years remaining for the challenge gift, donations may still be directed to the Vierheller Endowed Fund. Your gift will help to continue the legacy of George Vierheller and the Zoo's internationally respected work in the field of zoological medicine.
