Global Crossing Opens London Facility

May 6, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Global IP solutions provider Global Crossing (globalcrossing.com) announced on Tuesday it plans to open a hosting data center in London, UK to serve customers in Europe.

The company has relocated its data center operations in the Miami, Florida area to meet the housing and hosting needs of United States customers interested in connectivity to Latin America.

"Our existing hosting infrastructure is world class," says John Legere, Global Crossing CEO. "This expansion aims to capitalize on the rising demand for data center services, where supply has become increasingly scarce across Europe, and to accommodate the needs of US businesses seeking connectivity to the Latin American region. It's imperative to Global Crossing's customers that we enhance and expand this valuable capability."

According to IT research and advisory firm, Gartner (gartner.com), if significant new data center space is not brought built in high-demand areas such as London, there will be no free space available by the end of the decade.

By consolidating its data center services with the company's Miami operations, Global Crossing says it can now offer expanded physical facilities and enhance services for customers previously served out of a former Impsat facility in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The 2,133 square feet upgraded data center offers a world-class infrastructure and quality standards, including state-of-the-art secure client support, such as a redundant power system for generators, rectifiers, UPS and air conditioning.

The company has also created a new executive position to oversee its hosting strategic initiative as part of its commitment to enhancing its hosting and data center business solutions, says the company.

Gabriel del Campo, who currently manages the company's data center business in Latin America, has been named Global Crossing's new VP of data center services EMEA and global data center product management.

Under del Campo's leadership, the Latin American team built Impsat's existing data center business from the ground up. In addition to his other responsibilities, he will help develop the  common standards, best practices and processes to transform the regional business into a global one.

In March, Global Crossing announced it connected domain registrar and hosting provider Go Daddy's North American facilities through the company's dedicated Internet access service.
