Whoops! Looks like one of our rockhopper penguins tried to take over our social media in honor of #WorldPenguinDay by Tweeting "+p-oo[opio;8o7tkmfctraeswqw"
Sorry buddy, let the keepers do it! Follow along today as we celebrate #WorldPenguinDay
#KeeperPerspective It’s all hands…or, um, wings…on deck at Penguin & Puffin Coast. Our Humboldt penguins are helping our keepers with some data entry and office work. Not sure who’s the boss now! #BringTheStlZooToYou #PenguinDay
Penguin Day Keeper Chat Part 1
Everyone here at Penguin and Puffin Coast is so excited to celebrate #WorldPenguinDay with you! For this year's celebration, we wanted to share with you some of the ways we take care of your favorite tuxedoed friends.
As keepers, we rely on help from many departments within the Zoo, including Animal Nutrition, Animal Health, and Life Support Systems, in order to provide top-notch care for the animals. We are so lucky to have every one of them on our team!
While we can’t celebrate World Penguin Day with you in person, we hope you’ll enjoy this virtual celebration and we can’t wait to see you back at the Zoo! – KC Donaldson, Penguin Keeper #BringTheStlZooToYou
Penguin Day Keeper Chat Part 2
Did you know that the Saint Louis Zoo doesn’t just take great care of its penguins here, it also does an amazing job of helping penguins in the wild?
Through the Saint Louis Zoo WildCare Institute Center for Conservation in Punta San Juan, Peru, we helped to create a biological reserve for a colony of Humboldt penguins in their native habitat. Here the penguins have guaranteed nesting sites, and local farmers can still come in and harvest the guano they need, while working at a safe distance from the penguins, of course! So it’s a win-win! – KC Donaldson, Penguin Keeper #BringTheStlZooToYou
Happy Birthday Doris
Today we may be celebrating #WorldPenguinDay but it's also harbor seal Doris' 10th birthday! Pinniped keepers treated the birthday to an icy fish cake!
