Ah, That's the Spot!

#KeeperPerspective Asian elephants Donna and Jade use a street brush that is anchored to a post as a scratching device. Self maintenance behaviors, like skin care, are important for the elephants.  #BringTheStlZooToYou

#ThrowbackThursday Goeldi's Monkey

Here is some great Go-Pro footage from inside our Goeldi’s monkey honeycomb feeder. The feeder is a cluster of pieces of PVC pipe cemented together in a honeycomb formation. In the feeder are whole grain cereal with a little bit of honey; not their normal diet, but an occasional extra tasty treat.  The feeder encourages natural foraging behavior, as the animals must search for their food amongst all of the holes.  The tubes are sometimes filled with shavings or paper towels to adjust the complexity and keep things fresh. Sun for a Sun Bear

#KeeperPerspective One of the spots where our Malayan sun bear Rimba chooses to rest is right in front of his den. In the middle of the day and throughout the afternoon, the sun shines right down to that spot and becomes a perfect place to sunbathe. Keepers will give Rimba various nest-making materials such as wood-wool, straw, bamboo, and other plant materials so that he can build the perfect nest for himself. #BringTheStlZooToYou
