Glass Frog

Listen closely, you can hear the Atrato glass frog’s high pitch call. These small frogs are named for their completely transparent bellies. They are nocturnal and are generally found up in the forest canopy on the underside of leaves.

At the Charles H. Hoessle Herpetarium we recreated this species’ natural environment. Here you can see these nocturnal frogs hopping around on the leaves overhanging the water below. The males are calling for females. Once the eggs are laid, the males will guard them until they hatch and fall into the water below. #BringTheStlZooToYou
