Little Turtles

These black-breasted leaf turtles are excited the Zoo to reopened! Also commonly called the Vietnamese leaf turtle or the black-breasted hill turtle, this species is endemic to Southeast Asia. These three turtles, a male and two females, are a genetically valuable breeding group for the Association of Zoo and Aquariums Species Survival Plan. Herpetarium staff collected two eggs from this habitat early this year and are incubating them behind the scenes. Hopefully we will have two new turtles joining the population later this year! Stop by and see these turtles on exhibit in the Charles H. Hoessle Herpetarium. #BringTheStlZooToYou
