Jamaican Iguanas

Did you know that UV light is an essential part of reptile animal care?  Natural sunlight provides many benefits to reptiles, including heat, visual light and UV light.

While we are able to provide our reptiles with artificial lighting in the Charles H. Hoessle Herpetarium, we still do our best to get many of our species outdoors in natural light when the weather is appropriate. Here you can see our Jamaican iguanas exploring their outdoor enclosures. These habitats have deep substrate to allow for natural burrowing behaviors and provide nest boxes for the females. #BringtheStlZooToYou
