Helping Hellbenders

The water-loving salamander, the Ozark Hellbender, is critically endangered, but our friends at Stone Hill Winery are doing their part to save them! With every purchase of Ozark Hellbender wine, a portion is donated to the Zoo’s hellbender conservation efforts.  In two years, they have raised $20,000 for hellbender conservation.

You can help the Zoo’s hellbender conservation efforts when you purchase Stone Hill Winery’s Ozark Hellbender wine at your Metro-area grocery stores, Stone Hill Winery in Hermann, Missouri, or online on Stone Hill Winery’s website.

Happy Birthday Aspen

We would like to introduce you to one of the newest residents of River’s Edge — Aspen, a young male capybara. This handsome fellow came to the Zoo a couple of months ago. Yesterday was Aspen’s first birthday and keepers treated him to his favorite treats, such as melon and corn to celebrate. At just one year old, Aspen weighs about 70 pounds, but he still has quite a bit to grow. Did you know capybaras are the world’s largest rodents? - Daniel Schneider, keeper #KeeperPerspective #BringTheStlZooToYou
