A New Nyala
Meet Rogers, a male lowland nyala born on January 15, 2021, to mother Nuru and father Miles. Rogers weighed 12.9 lbs. at the time of his birth. Mom and calf are doing well and are bonding in their indoor habitat. A date has not been set for their public debut in their outdoor habitat in Red Rocks.
This birth was the result of a breeding recommendation by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ (AZA) Lowland Nyala Species Survival Plan, a cooperative program that manages this species in AZA zoos.
Early Childhood Virtual Classes
The Saint Louis Zoo offers early childhood education programs for families with children ages 2 to 6. Our virtual spring class offerings are designed for caregivers and children to attend together and include interactive role playing, songs, dances, games, hands-on exploration and art opportunities. Topics include animal movement and vocalizations, insects, amphibians, sharks, and more.
Classes kick off this month with Rockin’ Rodents on February 6 and Wild Valentines on February 14. For more information, cost and how to register, visit stlzoo.org/earlychildhood
