STLZoo Species Spotlight
This week’s Species Spotlight: Snow leopard
Animal Name: Pujii
Scientific Name: Uncia uncial
Geographical Range: Himalayas of Central Asia
Habitat: High elevations, rocky outcrops, ravines, mountain meadows and forests
Conservation Status: Snow leopards are endangered due to habitat loss, poaching and loss of their prey base.
Home at the Zoo: Big Cat Country
Fun Fact: The snow leopard has the longest tail in proportion to its body of any cat. The long tail acts as a counterbalance when chasing prey on steep, rocky slopes.
