Youth Ocean Conservation Summit
February 10-12, 2017

The Saint Louis Zoo will be hosting the first Midwestern Youth Ocean Conservation Summit on February 10-12, 2017, in order to reach a more inland audience of young people interested in aquatic conservation.

The Zoo ALIVE teen volunteers and the #byetobags campaign are excited to host this summit as a great resource for all interested students in the Midwestern region. Focusing and channeling all the wonderful energy and passion of young students/future conservationists (grades 6-12) is key to creating a better world for us and the generations beyond. Our keynote speaker for this event will be Patrick Chandler, the Education Director for the organization Washed Ashore. We intend to present the student attendees with workshops teaching skills to prepare them for tackling their own conservation projects. While the main focus of this summit is ocean conservation - a topic students might not always be able to explore as deeply as they want in the Midwest - our goal is for the skills taught in the workshops to be applicable to any conservation project students may want to pursue.  In addition to these workshops, there will be student speakers presenting their research projects and experiences from their time at the attending zoos and aquariums, and optional social activities with their fellow attendees
