Virtual program for students entering 2nd-5th grades.

Join us for a virtually amazing week with Camp KangaZoom this summer!  Enjoy the awesome hands-on animal activities, experiments, crafts and games that you expect from Camp, along with the Camp fun of skits, bingo, and song-time.  Virtual animal experiences, Zoo tours, new friends and caring counselors will make this a week to remember.  Youth attend these programs independently using a personal electronic device (laptop, tablet, etc.).    

Camp will be held on Zoom.  The parent packet and supply list will be emailed to all participants later this spring. The Zoom link will be sent during the week before your camp session.  

New this year, Camp Family Webinars held weekly on Thursday evenings.  Families are invited to join any or all of these weekly webinars.  Each week will feature a different animal or Zoo topic, complete with family friendly games and chats with Zoo professionals.  Topic list and registration links will be sent with your parent packet.  This is a free experience for all families registered for Camp KangaZoom.     For Zoo fans everywhere! Campers will learn what their favorite animals need to survive and thrive and how zoos meet those needs, through virtual visits to new and historic Zoo habitats, active games and cool crafts. Campers will use their knowledge and creativity to design and build a model zoo of the future that works for animals, keepers and guests.

  • For students entering 2nd-5th grades   

    This camp will focus on the lifeblood of the planet – water!  Water supports all life on Earth, and even helps to regulate the climate!  Campers will virtually visit the Zoo’s animal swimmers, splashers, dabblers and divers, and get their own hands wet in awesome aquatic crafts, games, super science activities and all of the things that make Zoo Camp great.

  • Add on our Camper Toolkit when registering, which contains a Camp T-shirt, souvenir cup, and all of the specialty supply items needed for the camp activities for $30.  Order by May 1st to guarantee your child’s T-shirt size. Orders placed by May 21st can choose to pick up their toolkit at the Zoo on June 2nd or 5th or pay an additional $15 to ship directly to your home.  All orders received after May 21st will be mailed and charged the shipping fee. Fees for the camper toolkit are non-refundable.

    A complete supply list will also be provided in the parent packet for those without a toolkit.

  • For students ages 7-12

    Experience a summer of camp on your own schedule with access to our camp website with over a hundred animal activities and videos about Amazing Animal Abilities, Senses and Conservation.  This camp encourages physical activity outdoors or inside, nature observation, hands-on activities and crafts using household materials, and communication with camp counselors via mail or email. Hoppin’ from Home includes a Camp Toolkit that will be sent to your home, which contains full color print-outs of all activity sheets and templates, and a pre-paid postcard, envelope, and supplies for some activities.  Additional toolkits can be purchased for $10.  Families can also attend the Thursday weekly Camp Family Webinars.

  • Thanks to generous gifts from AFB International, Michael and Joyce Bytnar, the Engelhardt Family Foundation, First Bank, the Kwame Family Foundation, Sherry Price and Robert Miner and the Walter and Nancy Galvin Education Scholarship Fund the Saint Louis Zoo is pleased to announce scholarship opportunities for our educational summer camp programs! These donors provide financial assistance for under-resourced students to attend our summer camps. Full scholarships are available for children who are interested in learning about the animal world, but could not otherwise attend our camp programs due to financial limitations.

    To apply for a scholarship:

    1. Each child must have a completed Recommendation Form. This should be completed by someone who knows your child and financial situation, and is neither related to you nor your child. Only one Recommendation form per child is required; however we will accept two if one individual better knows your child and another can better address your financial situation.
    2. Choose one option to complete your application:
      1. The Parent/Guardian and the child can complete the Camp Scholarship Application and return the forms to us by April 25.
      2. Apply for a Camp Scholarship online by April 25.  After completing the online application, each child must complete a Child Essay Form and return the form to us by April 25.

Specialty Camp

  • Join fellow mystery mavens in this four-day virtual specialty camp for an adventure of tiger-sized proportions!  We will learn why carnivores are such a unique group and discover how to tell which animals are carnivores.  Through problem solving, research, puzzles, and virtual adventures, we will identify our mystery carnivore that lives at the Zoo.

  •  Explore what it’s like to work in the animal care field at the Zoo and beyond! It is all about teamwork as scientists and zookeepers work together with other departments to provide excellent care to our Zoo animals, and to learn more about their wild cousins. In this camp, we will go on virtual adventures to see live Zoo animals, engage in interactive activities together and virtually explore different areas of the Zoo, to better learn how we care for animals near and far.
