Four-day programs for students entering 3rd - 12th grades.

Specialty Camps are a uniquely different experience from Camp KangaZoo, in that they take an in-depth look into a specific topic. 

Participants should bring a lunch and beverage each day and dress for the weather.

Our extended KangaCare PM program is available for an additional fee.

  • Join fellow mystery mavens in this four-day specialty camp for an adventure of tiger-sized proportions!  We will learn why carnivores are such a unique group and we’ll discover how to tell which animals are carnivores.  Through problem solving, research, puzzles, and adventures, we’ll identify a mystery carnivore that lives at the Zoo!

  • Journey through time with the Saint Louis Zoo! We will identify prehistoric animals and discover how some have evolved into the animals we see today. Scaly dinosaurs, slimy amphibians, and giant insects, oh my! Come along as we explore the new Dinoroarus exhibit and see many amazing Zoo animals. To finish off our week together, you will use what you learned to design your own prehistoric creature!

  • If you enjoy visiting the apes, monkeys, and lemurs at the Zoo, then this camp is for you! Join us for a four-day adventure that will include activities and up-close observations, while we learn about the different primate species. We will also discover what it takes to care for the many different species of primates that call the Zoo home and learn about Primate Canopy Trails, the Zoo’s newest exhibit.

  • What does it take to be a marine biologist? Dive in to learn about the wonders of our oceans and their inhabitants. In this four-day program, students will explore our connection to the ocean through scientific tools, squid dissection, fish classification and conservation practices.

  • In this four-day program, we will dive deeper into the world of marine biology through dissection, field work, and hands-on learning. Students will explore the importance of studying invasive species, climate change and how the Saint Louis Zoo takes care of marine mammals. (This program is recommended for participants who have already participated in Junior Marine Biologist.)

  • In this four-day specialty camp, students will learn about the skills required for a career in conservation. We will practice field biology techniques, speak with conservation professionals, and learn how to communicate conservation issues and solutions. We will also explore conservation efforts led by the Zoo, both here in Missouri and around the world.

  • Thanks to generous gifts from donors such as AFB International, the Kwame Family Foundation, the Nancy Galvin Education Scholarship Fund, Anna and James McKelvey, and Post Holdings, the Saint Louis Zoo is pleased to announce scholarship opportunities for our educational summer camp programs.

    Who is eligible for a financial scholarship? Scholarships are awarded to children/families based on an application and recommendation form that shows:

    • The child has a strong interest in learning more about animals and the Zoo, and is the correct age/grade level for the camp program for which they apply.  Different camps are available for children age 4 through High School age.
    • The ability to get to and from the Zoo for Camp each day. Transportation is not provided by the Zoo.
    • The family needs financial assistance to attend. 

     

    To apply (Applications and recommendations are still being accepted and scholarships awarded on an on-going basis.)

    1. Print out and complete the application form.  Mail completed form to the address on the form OR drop off completed form at the Education Department, lower level of the North Entrance building, Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

    2. Mail or email the recommendation form to someone not related to you, who knows your child and your family’s financial need, for them to complete and submit via email, mail or drop-off.
