In-Person Programs

All in-person programs will adhere to the following guidelines to ensure the safety of our staff and all participants:   

  • Reduced number of participants per program session. 
  • All participants must adhere to mask wearing protocols and practice social distancing during the entire program.  
  • To prevent the spread of COVID-19, additional restrictions will be required for attending all in-person programs. See the sections on Covid-19 Guidelines for In-Person Programs, the Covid-19 Policy and the Covid-19 Terms and Conditions found on the Program Registration page. 
  • Unregistered participants cannot be accommodated.

Youth attend these programs accompanied by a registered parent or adult.  The fees for these programs are per registered participant.   

 

  • For youth entering 2nd - 8th grades, accompanied by a registered parent or adult  

    Join the Saint Louis Zoo’s team of keepers by participating in A Day with the Rays!  In your first year as an aquatics keeper for the day, we will give you an official name tag and T-shirt to take home.  Jump right in with preparing diets and help maintain the exhibit to keep it looking nice and the animals healthy.  As the new expert, you will help visitors learn about our exhibit, how to touch and feed the stingrays, and touch the sharks.  Please wear a T-shirt, khaki or jean shorts, and old closed-toed shoes.  Bring a bottle of water and a camera.  A Saint Louis Zoo snack will be provided.  Get wet, smell like fish and have a ton of fun with A Day with the Rays!      

    Note: We do not recommend this program for children with shellfish allergies.  Please mention any latex allergies when registering. To provide a safe environment during Covid-19, each participant must be accompanied by a registered adult.

  • For youth entering 2nd - 8th grades, who have attended A Day with the Rays, accompanied by a registered parent or adult

    Dive deeper into the science and career of an aquatics keeper.  In this second year you will continue building your knowledge by participating in animal husbandry duties.  Once the daily tasks are accomplished, you will explore fish and cephalopod biology, perform advanced marine water quality monitoring, and, of course, have some time for fun and games.  It’s time to show off all that you learned from last time as well as pick up a few new tricks along the way. Please wear a T-shirt (your DWR shirt is a great choice), khaki or jean shorts, and old closed-toed shoes.  Bring a bottle of water and a camera.  A Saint Louis Zoo snack will be provided.  Get wet, smell like fish and have even more fishy fun with Advanced Day with the Rays!  Participants must have attended A Day with the Rays.

    Welcome to DinoROARus!  Spend a day in the life of a paleontologist, learning all about dinosaurs, past and present.  Study how fossils are created, do some digging yourself, and investigate how scientists use fossil clues to unravel the mysteries of prehistory.  Puzzle together some dinosaur bones and see what they tell us about diets and lifestyles. Please wear a T-shirt, khaki or jean shorts and old closed-toed shoes.  Bring a bottle of water and a camera.   A Saint Louis Zoo snack will be provided.  Get ready for a dino-mite adventure!

  • Thanks to generous gifts from AFB International, Michael and Joyce Bytnar, the Engelhardt Family Foundation, First Bank, the Kwame Family Foundation, Sherry Price and Robert Miner and the Walter and Nancy Galvin Education Scholarship Fund the Saint Louis Zoo is pleased to announce scholarship opportunities for our educational summer career programs!  Full and partial scholarships are available for children who are interested in learning about the animal world, but could not otherwise attend our career programs due to financial limitations.

    To apply for a scholarship:

    1. Each child must have a completed Recommendation Form. This should be completed by someone who knows your child and financial situation, and is neither related to you nor your child. Only one Recommendation form per child is required; however we will accept two if one individual better knows your child and another can better address your financial situation.
    2. The Parent/Guardian and the child should complete the Career Program Scholarship Application and return the forms to us at least 4 weeks before your requested career program date(s).  

    Note: We will continue to accept scholarship applications until all scholarship funding has been used.  Please apply at least 4 weeks prior to your requested career program date(s).
