Animal Scene Investigation

For students entering 5th - 8th

Come and discover how scientists study what animals leave behind to learn more about them. Scientists use bones, teeth, tracks, insects and scat to investigate animal mysteries. In this class, you will be the scientist. Learn to recognize factors necessary to estimate an organism’s time of death. We will apply our problem-solving skills to solve an on-grounds mystery.

Artsy Animals

For students entering 5th - 8th

Do you have a flair for painting, drawing, or sketching? Join us for Artsy Animals class, where we will discuss how animals and nature inspire us. Each student will create several pieces of art to take home. Besides making animal-inspired art, participants will also learn how some of our animals make their own art!

Biomimicry 101

Ever wonder how the idea for Velcro came about?  What about the super speedy swim suits Olympic swimmers wear?  Nature is a great inventor, and engineers and scientists are inspired by what it has done every day.  In this class, we will learn how leaders in their field use what is outside their window to create new and improved products to help us in our daily lives.

Dive Into the Oceans

For students entering 5th - 8th

Dive in and get your feet wet as we explore life in the ocean.  Discover how we in St. Louis affect the ocean, and how the ocean affects us.  We will visit marine animals, including the “Stingrays at Caribbean Cove," enjoy the Zoo’s Sea Lion Show and more.

Powerful Predators 

For students entering 5th - 8th

Although they live by the death of other animals, predators play an important role in the ecosystem.  In this class, we will look at unique hunting adaptation these predators use, as well as discover the value of predators.  We will also tour selected areas of the Zoo to see some of our meat-eaters and learn how we care for them.
