Join us as we visit Big Cat Country and the Antelope Yards where we will investigate the many ways animals obtain their food. We will examine predator-prey relationships, food chains and webs that illustrate the energy transfer among organisms in an ecosystem.

Endangered Species

What has happened to the birds on the island of Guam, or to the tropical bears? What is the HIPPO Dilemma? During a visit to the bear and bird areas of the Zoo, we will investigate the reasons why these and other animals are declining in their natural habitats and what is being done to help.

Introductory Tour - Orthwein Animal Nutrition Center 

Grades: 4 - 12
Tour Length: 45 minutes
Fee: $70 (ZMD $55)
Offered September through May (Monday - Friday only)

This introductory tour is led by Education docents. During this tour we will explore what it takes to properly feed our animals while visiting the Orthwein Animal Nutrition Center. This unique experience provides students the opportunity to see where our animal diets are prepared and learn how our Zoo nutritionist determines the best diet for our animals.
