Schedule May 17, 2020

7:00 a.m.** 5K Race/Walk 3.1 mile loop course through Forest Park and the Zoo. Timed and competitive.

7:00- 10 a.m. Post-Race Party

Stop by our post-race party in Schnuck Family Plaza for adult beverage specials, a live DJ, sponsor booths and giveaways, award pick-ups for all categories and fun photo opportunities. 

8:00 a.m. Kid's Crawl Stretch Participants in the 1/2-mile and 1-mile races can meet near the start line for the Kids’ Crawl Stretch led by the Washington University and St. Louis Children’s Young Athlete Center.
8:20 a.m. 1/2-mile Kids' Cub Crawl Untimed, non-competitive run through Zoo. The ideal age group for this race is ages 12 and under.  Please note: kids will start and finish at different locations and run through the Zoo.  

8:30 a.m. 1-mile Race Timed and competitive, participants 12-and-under will be eligible for awards.

Make Tracks Through the Zoo will be held rain or shine. In the event of severe weather, race start times may be delayed. We recommend that participants be in the area of the start line or in The Living World and ready to run by the scheduled start time. Decisions regarding the start of the race will be communicated to participants in person at this time as they are made.  

Note: No dogs, rollerblades, bikes, skates or skateboards permitted on courses. Strollers are welcome in our 5K race!

Participants in the 5K and 1-mile race will receive a disposable timing chip for more accurate results.

**Runners must begin by 7:10 a.m. and end by 8:30 a.m. to count in official results. 

Virtual Run 

Don't want to get up at the crack of dawn? Want to support the Zoo from afar? Sign up to be a virtual runner! A virtual race is a race in which you can run (or walk) from any location you choose. You can run or jog, and you can walk on the road, trail, treadmill, track, at the gym or even at another race! You get to run your own race, at your own pace, and time it yourself. Your registration fee will still support the Saint Louis Zoo; we will mail your shirt and finisher’s ribbon to you the week of the race. Select "virtual runner" during the registration process.


All registrants will receive a finisher's medalcomplimentary performance T-shirt* and post-race refreshments.*

Course Maps

This course through Forest Park and the Zoo takes runners and walkers past some of the Zoo’s most scenic features, including the antelope and giraffe habitats, the beautiful architecture of Historic Hill, and the Zoo’s newest exhibit, Grizzly Ridge, home to grizzly bears Huckleberry and Finley.  The start/finish line is located right outside The Living World building on Government Drive.

Finisher medals for participants in all races!


  • Overall male and female awards
  • First, second and third place male and female awards in 15 age categories ranging from 10 and under up to 75+

1-mile Race:

  • Overall male and female awards for 12-and-under participants.
  • First, second and third place male and female awards for 12-and-under participants.

Please Note: There will not be an official award ceremony this year. Winners can pick up their awards during our Post-Race Party in Schnuck Family Plaza.

Sunday, May 17 (race day) 5:30 to 8:45 a.m. The Living World at Saint Louis Zoo

Note: Thursday or Friday pickup is encouraged to avoid race-day delays. On race day you may pick up your packet in the lower level of The Living World at the Zoo.



Free parking is available on both lots before the race. Spaces are very limited. The first race starts at 7 a.m. There are 5,000 participants, so please allow extra time to park and get to the start line. Street parking is also available on Government Drive west of the North Lot and on Wells Drive. Participants and spectators will be able to enter the Zoo through both the North and South Entrances.

Government Drive east of Fine Arts Drive and Washington Drive will be closed after 5 a.m.  Access to the North Entrance via Hampton will not be available during this time. Visitors can access Government Drive west of the North Lot via Wells Drive.  

The Zoo will open to the general public for regular hours at 9 a.m.  Parking lot fees will be collected after 8 a.m.

Just Like You at the Zoo

Join St. Louis Children's Hospital at the Zoo for activities that teach children why it's important for people—and Zoo animals—to take care of their bodies. Children collect animal cards at four stations throughout the Zoo. After the cards are collected, they win a prize. Register at the Zoo's North and South Entrances.
