Classroom and Scout Troop Adoptions

Some of the best Zoo Parents are classrooms and scout troops. In addition to learning about animals, children also learn the benefits of giving, since every dollar raised goes directly to the care and feeding of Zoo animals. For more information on adoptions for your organization, call the Zoo Membership office at (314) 646-4771, option 2, or toll free at (800) 966-8877.

Here is what your classroom or scout troop will receive when they adopt an animal at the Zoo.

Zoo tours are conducted by trained education volunteers. Each tour is approximately 45 minutes. Some tour topics available include: rainforest, reptiles and amphibians, African animals, endangered species, and classification.

Outreach programs will be available to groups that raise $800 to adopt an animal. A representative of the Zoo will visit your class of no more than 30 students within a 30-mile radius of the Zoo and present a program. Some of the outreach topics include ecology and animal classification.

Your school will receive an Assembly Program when you raise $1,500 to adopt an animal at the Saint Louis Zoo. Topic presentations vary, and often the presenter will bring along biofacts.

The Zoo tour, outreach program and assembly program are conducted September through May and require eight weeks' notice to schedule. When you adopt an animal at one of these levels, information on how to schedule your free tour or program will be included with a letter in your adoption package.
